Understanding of Manaiakalani Pedagogy
Visible Learning
We need to make learning visible. The notion we have 'for too long hidden the learning steps from children', bears thinking about.
We want  children knowing and not guessing where the learning may be going. We want them  thinking and making connections about how they may apply the learning.
For all learning the default setting is Visible.
To be Accessible, Available, to Advance.

Effective teaching and Learn Create Share pedagogy 
The digital environment allows access to a large range of thought provoking learning resources to stimulate learning. Use of a range of resources offers choice and collaboration.

Within this visible learning, feedback to students is more effective, for more people. This is powerful for the learner.
It may:
• motivate a child to produce more quality work or JUST DO MORE work.
• inform others about their learning.
• get other points of view.
So Be brave-take off the blindfolds! 

What did I learn to use in my professional teaching and learning?

Google apps are best for children as they can be directly accessed through their gmail accounts [rather than being required to use passwords]

I can better use Hapara Dashboard to monitor the activity of learners. What/ how much children are doing. Eg. use of Focus browser.

Multi Modal Approach 
In the words of professor Stuart McNaughton teachers 'can use the digital environment to prepare a range of teaching resources and opportunities to stimulate learning which is connected across curriculum content.'
Adding multimodal opportunities can amplify learning. I will revisit my literacy planning to bring about in a greater range of digital learning resources. 
The Shop Window is a great analogy.

Google Drawing 
Practical Applications using Google Drawing
During the week a school we worked more with google drawings to Learn Create and Share. The context for this learning was around the question
What kind of person was Captain Cook? This involved reading to find evidence for our ideas and opinions.
Children were provided with a shared slide of quick write tips
•Word Art for titles
•Shapes for our text
•Paste txt into shapes using
1 double click
Ctrl shift V
• Format your text
-Use fill colour, custom, opaque
-Insert an appropriate image

Insert > Image> Search The Web
Image > Arrange > Send to back


Google Sheets
Maths Statistics- using google sheets-
Finding out more about our classmates.
As an introduction to google sheets we discussed gathering data to find out more about our classmates. In small groups the children came up ideas for surveys. We used some traditional models to display our data and draw conclusions. Eg multi link cubes.
Ideas included, Favourite Seafood, My Dream Pet. Groups then gathered  data using tallies.[prior learning]
I modelled how to put one set of data into a google sheet then create a chart. We learned about axis and found the Chart Editor tool.  A group of children went on to create their own graphs with some independent embellishments around Learn, Create, Share which was excellent.








Next steps- teacher
Set up a shared presentation/flow chart on our learning Site  -Steps for Making a Chart so the learning is rewindable.
Next Steps-children
Use of  Google Forms to gather data.

Engagement in the learning design
Collaborative thinking around spelling so children can learn at their own pace. It is wonderful members of the group are so willing to share effective practice.
Next step: Devise a motivating hook and set up shared slides of Essential words with incentives for progress through the lists so we

In 2017 I set up a planning site. This was a step in the right direction as I now move towards a site for visible learning for my class. Next steps are to plan the layout of the site.

What did I learn that improves confidence, capability, work flow in my personal life?
I am now an avid user of Google Keep!
